The surroundings of Valcrosa
B&B Valcrosa is located on the edge of Melazzo, a small village in Piemonte , a region in the northwest of Italy. In Melazzo you will find a post office, a church and a small, cozy restaurant – nothing more. But, there is more than enough to experience: there is plenty of peace, space and in the area you can enjoy walking or cycling. And with places like Turin and Milan and the smaller town of Acqui Terme within driving distance, you can indulge yourself if you like shopping and good food.
Piemonte literally means ‘at the foot of the mountain’ – and that name says everything about the location, the landscape and the surroundings. From Utrecht it is about 1,100 kilometers by car, but you can also fly to Turin or Milan. The river Po flows right through this beautiful region, which with a length of 652 kilometers is the longest river in Italy.
The climate in this region is characterized by a wonderful spring, warm summers, a long autumn with pleasant temperatures and a short winter. From April (around 17 0 C) the temperature slowly rises to an average of 28 0 C in July and August, but also in September it is still wonderful with an average temperature of 23 0 C.
What to do: some tips
In the hall of the B&B you will find folders and brochures with information about the possibilities in the (direct) area. Below we already give a number of tips. If you have a question or need help with choosing a nice excursion, we will of course be happy to help you.
Walking, cycling, golfing & swimming
When you step out of our door, you will find the most beautiful hiking trails. Endless hiking without meeting anyone, with the most beautiful view and a backpack full of goodies for the road, who wouldn’t want that? Also very beautiful on a mountain bike by the way.
By the way, are you crazy about (race) cycling? Then you can also indulge yourself here. Whether you are a trained cyclist or mountain biker or prefer to go out on an e-bike: the area around Valcrosa is perfect for it. From 2025 we will have e-bikes available for our guests. Of course also beautiful routes!
In the immediate vicinity of B&B Valcrosa there are beautiful golf courses. For example Golfclub Villa Carolina , one of our favorites.
The Erro River is 10 minutes away, where you can also swim or sunbathe on the small beaches.
Culinary enjoyment
In the immediate vicinity of Melazzo you will find many nice, small villages where you can get acquainted with the Piedmontese cuisine in the restaurants. A simple, honest and pure cuisine, full of taste.
Acqui Terme
Just a 15-minute drive away, you will find Acqui Terme, the city known for its healing thermal springs. Here you can stroll through the streets, sit on a terrace, view historical buildings, go shopping or eat out in one of the many restaurants. Prefer a relaxing day? Then visit one of the spas that can be found in Acqui Terme. Right in the centre, you will find the Bollente . On Tuesdays and Fridays , there is a market in the morning, where you will find the most diverse stalls with organic products, jewellery, household items and typical Italian delicacies. Our tip: end your day on the terrace or in a bar-café with an ‘aperitivo’ – a drink with something tasty to go with it.
Cities in the area
Would you rather visit a larger city? That is also possible: from Valcrosa you can reach Genova, Torino, Milano, Alba and Asti within one to one and a half hours by car.
Day at the beach
A day at the coast is also a possibility. From Valcrosa it is about an hour’s drive to the Riviera dei Fiori, where you will find many beautiful, small villages such as Noli. If you have the time, make sure to stop in the beautiful town of Sassello on the way.
Local winegrowers
For wine lovers, there is much to enjoy in Piemonte. Visit one of the winegrowers in the area, such as Cordara or Poggio. It is extra fun to combine your visit with a wine tasting: go and taste, enjoy small snacks, learn more about the different wines and feel how proud the winegrower is of his or her wines. Good to know: you can of course also find these wines at our B&B and in our shop.
